Life tests!
For the ninth year in a row, we are carrying on and developing a project that we co-designed and fully financed (with the Italian Down Syndrome Association). The initial phase of the project (called “Tutti a canestro”, in English “Let’s play basketball all together”) involved helping children with Down Syndrome to get closer to sport and, more importantly, to integrate into a social and sports context that mostly consisted of children without disabilities, with self-evident benefits on the ability of the Down syndrome children involved to acquire more and more autonomy in everyday life. Initially, the group only consisted of girls (who were then joined by a boy following the initial years), and the only sport they played was basketball. Today, the project aims to introduce the children to everyday life, to go out by themselves, to take public transport or to go to the movies. In short, to take a few little life practice tests in preparation for when they grow up.
